After the tough beginning in Iceland, we were kind of settled down and our days were finally getting peaceful and quiet. But for how long?

Living

We finally got the email from the campsite and we could move there for volunteering. No need to sleep in toilet again.

The cheapest tent we found was around 100 Euros, exactly what we had left now. Luckily we had a free sleeping bag to sleep with. Though it’s still quite cold at night, we didn’t need to worry about where to sleep anymore.

Working

I also got two job interviews from a hostel and a hotel. I had a trial shift on housekeeping for the hostel while the hotel manager said she would contact me later.

After the trial shift, the boss said they needed part time only for now but they would give me full time job in July. Never mind, I’d also got a job eventually.

I worked 2-3 days in the hostel and 3 hours everyday in the campsite, while Jan worked busily in the restaurant. After the tough beginning in Iceland, we were kind of settled down and our days were finally getting peaceful and quiet, although also a bit too dull.

In the last week of June, I got an email from the hotel asking me to go on a trial shift. But this time, it wasn’t working in the housekeeping but in the buffet breakfast section.

To be honest, I didn’t like the housekeeping job in the hostel very much. Although my boss already gave me the full time contract for July, I still wanted to give it a try in the Hotel.

My job was to help a bit in the kitchen but mainly was to clean tables and clean everything after the breakfast closed. It was simple but it’s heavier and busier, and the worst was I had to get up at 5am. Nevertheless, I enjoyed working in the hotel more, probably because the people there were more cheerful and relaxing. And most important, I wouldn’t be working alone anymore.

After serious consideration, I decided to give up my full time contract and all the free excursions (part of the staff benefit) I can get from the hostel and changed to work in the hotel in July.

July would be another beginning.

Another beginning of ups and downs in this country.
