Paraguay is one of the poorest and least developed countries in South America but it doesn’t mean that there’s no rich people, especially in the capital city Asuncion.
Asuncion is a city of two tales. On one hand, expensive European cars are commonly seen in the city, executives alike people are everywhere in the center and middle class Paraguayans are jogging with iPod in the nice riverside everyday. On the other hand, the slum is only two blocks away from the city center, between Plaza de los Heroes and the nice riverside. Kids from there never have a chance to school to even learn Spanish and they wander around the center everyday trying to make a living by shinning shoes or scavenging.
It’s very uncomfortable to see the two worlds crossed each other today. A beverage company held a street event to promote its new drink by giving free beer to well doing Paraguayans while the slum kids and old women worked hard to pick up all empty cans for few extra pennies.
